Students in tizzy over exams row
Students allege that varsity was deliberately targeting them.
Hyderabad: JNTU Engineering students are angry that university officials are not allowing them to appear for the final year exams slated for this April. While the students allege that varsity was deliberately targeting them, authorities said they were going by the rule book.
These students studying in private engineering colleges belong to the 2013 batch. Hemanth, one of the students, urged the university officials to relax rules regarding attendance and credits. “Those having 61.25 percentage have been detained. This is three per cent short of the required 65 per cent attendance. Credit score has to be lowered from 40 to 30 per cent,” he said.
Students felt they were being made to suffer over dispute between private colleges and university on infrastructure facilities.
University officials did not agree with the students’ contention. How come they do not complain against any private college management if they are denied proper facilities, an official asked.
Registrar Yadaiah said the university cannot tinker with the well-defined rules of 65 per cent attendance as well as credit score, about which the students are informed at the beginning of the year itself. With varsity officials not paying heed to their plea, students said that they would seek government intervention to bail them out.
