Wayanad native in NIA custody

KOZHIKODE: The National Investigation Agency probing the Pathankott terror attack took into custody Riaz Rasheed, 38, a converted Muslim from Wayanad, a few days back from Lucknow, UP, it is learned.

Dinesan, a native of Pancharakolly, Pilakkavu near Mananthavadi in Wayanad, has been missing for the last 13 years, the local police said. he later converted and took the name Rasheed.

Confirming the report, Wayanad superintendent of police M.K. Pushkaran told DC that two officials from NIA had visited the district two days back and also probed about the antecedents of Rasheed.

The officials visited his house and also met his mother Lakshmi. “He had been linked with smuggling groups and there was a case registered by the excise department against him in the year 2000 and he vanished soon after,” Mr Pushkaran said.

Since then he was missing and the family has no clue about his whereabouts till the investigation team came in search of the address he had given. Nobody knows when he was converted to Islam or where he had converted.

“We have no evidence or information about his involvement in the terror modules that executed the terror attack,” Mr Pushkaran said, adding that the interrogation of the person in on Punjab.
