MLA candidates' in fray for GHMC

Hyderabad: While getting a ticket to contest a civic body election may be considered a stepping stone for some, for others, it is a climbdown. Some of the candidates for the GHMC polls had earlier tried their luck and contested for the state Legislative Assembly membership.
P. Vijaya Reddy, daughter of former minister P. Janardhan Reddy had contested on a YSRC ticket for the state Assembly in 2014, lost, and is now a candidate for the GHMC polls. Mahesh Cooperative Urban Bank chairman B. Mahesh Kumar too had tried to get a ticket for the Assembly and is now contesting for the Begum Bazaar division on a TRS ticket.
TS home minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy’s son-in-law V. Srinivas Reddy was also an MLA aspirant, and is now contesting for Ramnagar division. Similar is the case with former MLA Mukesh Goud’s son Vikram Goud. The Congress has announced him its mayoral candidate if it wins the polls.
The GHMC elections play a major role in state elections as well; candidates who fail to win in municipal elections are at a disadvantage when seeking an Assembly ticket.
