Protests erupt over Hyderabad suicide

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Several organisations including the SFI held demonstrations and meetings in connection with the suicide of Dalit scholar Rohith Vemula in University of Hyderabad.

In Thiruvananthapuram, SFI activists assembled at the University College and raised slogans against union minister Bandaru Dattatreya and university vice-chancellor Appa Rao demanding their immediate arrest.

The students took out a march from the college campus to the secretariat.

In Malappuram, students of DGM MES Mampad College took part in the protest gathering held at the college campus where an act of symbolic suicide was also performed.

Muzadique Ahmed, Sahid Faris and Najiha Muhammed addressed the gathering.
