Three choke to death in septic tank in Kannur

The bodies of the three were recovered by the fire force which arrived from Mattannur.

KANNUR: Three persons, including a woman, died in a septic tank accident at Chathothukulam under Chakkarakkal police limits  in Kannur on Tuesday.  They were identified as  septic tank cleaner Muneer, 42, of Chalad,  P.K. Sathi, 56, and  her son Ratheesh Kumar, 36.  

The accident occurred when Muneer was trying to clean the septic tank at Sathi’s house at 4.30 p.m.    As he entered the tank, he gasped for breath.  

Ratheesh tried to help him by going  down through a ladder.   Sathi  supported him with  her hands.  But  Ratheesh was  asphyxiated  and he collapsed  pulling down  Sathi  also into the tank.  

The bodies of the three were recovered by the fire force which arrived from Mattannur,  Kannur and Kuthuparamba.  Ratheesh was  a tailor and is survived by wife Rasna and daughter Diya.  The  Chakkarakkal police registered a case.
