Excise official's houses raided, assets seized

Vijayawada: A central investigation unit of State Anti-Corruption Bureau launched simultaneous raids at the houses of an assistant commissioner of prohibition and excise department at West Godavari, Vijayawada and Guntur on Wednesday. The excise officer M. Adi Seshu, working at the AP Beverages Corp-oration Ltd depot in Chagallu in West Godavari has been found possessing disproportionate assets worth over Rs 3 crore as per the government rates.

In the open market same property is worth between Rs 50 crore and Rs 70 crore. DSPs A. Rama Devi, Murali Krishna and K. Prasad of the central team led the searches at three places with the help of 12 inspectors. Officials found property documents of 17 plots including three in West Godavari, three in Guntur and two in East Godavari and others apart from a house in Sikamani Centre of Vijayawada.

The plots are either located at prime locations of the towns or at the bypass roads where demand for plots is always high. The land plots which he bought long ago cost less than Rs 5 lakh each as per government rate then but at present they are worth over Rs 30 lakh now. Searches are still on and officials are looking for benamis to the official.

He also possessed 540 grams of gold, 230 grams of silver ornaments, Rs 28 lakh deposited in various banks, Rs 5.5 lakh fixed deposit and Rs 2.8 in cash at home. On the other hand, P. Durga Prasad, sub-registrar, who was arrested on Tuesday for possessing disproportionate assets worth over Rs 15 crore, was produced before the court and remanded.
