Farmer's run from south to north will go through 10 states.
Chennai: The ministry of tourism in co-ordination with the High Commission of Australia is organising ‘Spirit of India Run’ by Pat Farmer, a long distance runner, who has also served as a Member of Parliament from Sydney and as assistant minister for education and sports.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, Australian Consul-General to South India, Sean Kelly said, “I’m delighted that this run by an Australian known for his endurance abilities will commence from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu before finally culminating at Srinagar”
Farmer’s run from south to north will go through 10 states. This journey will further strengthen the relationship between India and Australia, he said.
From Kanyakumari, Farmer will run along the west coast of India passing through Kochi and Kasargod in Kerala and then through Karwar in coastal Karnataka before moving on to Goa and Maharashtra.
Pat Farmer’s ‘Spirit of India Run’ is aimed at cementing relations between India and Australia; encourage tourism and create awareness about India as a tourism destination. This run aims to raise funds for education of girl child.
“I am very excited to be running the length of India as never before have I run in a country with such diversity and steeped in such cultural significance,” Farmer said. A film crew travelling with Farmer will record the entire journey for a film about his marathon undertaking.
