More women than men on poll rolls 2016
Total electorate in Tamil Nadu is 5.79 crores, Men 2.88 crores, women 2.91 crores and third Gender - 4383.
Chennai: Women voters outnumber men in the final rolls of special summary revision of electoral rolls, 2016.
As per the electoral rolls released on Wednesday, out of the total electorate of 5.79 crore, women comprise 2.91 crore and men 2.88 crore and 4383 third gender voters. There are three lakh more women voters than men.
In a statement, Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Lakhoni said that 47 overseas electors were included in the electoral rolls.
He said over 12.33 lakh electors were added in the final rolls and SMS is being sent to around eight lakh applicants who had provided their mobile numbers at the time of applying. Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) for the new voters are being printed and will be delivered through the Booth Level Officers by February 10, 2016.

As many as 39.47 lakh Chennaiites are eligible to exercise their franchise in the upcoming state Assembly elections with women voters outnumbering males in 13 of the 16 state assembly constituencies in the city.
The final electoral rolls was released on Tuesday by District Election Officer Vikram Kapur at the Ripon Buildings. Since the draft rolls were released in September 2015, 1.18 lakh more voters have been added to the list, which is an increase of 3.09 per cent.
There will be 32,208 first timers eligible to cast their votes during the elections while 836 transgender citizens too are eligible.
Of the 16 constituencies, Velachery has the highest voters at 2.96 lakh while Harbour constituency has the least at 1.82 lakh. Besides Harbour, Egmore and Royapuram are the only constituencies with less than two lakh voters.
Except Velachery, Virugambakkam and Harbour, women voters outnumbered males in the rest of the constituencies by anywhere between 1,000 and 6m000 votes. Velachery only had a slender lead of 43 male voters while Virugambakkam and Harbour had nearly 3,000 and 10,000 more male voters than women.
