Bengaluru: Dedicated cycle lanes in HSR soon
DULT Commissioner V. Manjula said that the project is estimated to be Rs18.55 crore.
Bengaluru: Here is some good news for cycle enthusiasts in HSR Layout, who have been organising cycle days every month with limited infrastructure.
Soon a dedicated cycle lane would become a reality in the area as the Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT) has approved the project and sanctioned funds to BBMP. The BBMP too has floated tenders in this regard.
In fact, on Tuesday some officials were in seen making a trial cycle track and taking down specification required for the project.
DULT Commissioner V Manjula revealed to Deccan Chronicle that the project is estimated to be of Rs 18.55 crore.
She added, “Twelve kilometres will be a dedicated track, while 14 kilometres will be a shared one. Other things linked with the project include pedestrian safety amenities, improvement of two junctions, cycle stands and parking.”
She said that the plan to create a cycle lane in HSR Layout was taken up much before cycle days began to be organised at the request by some residents of HSR Layout.
“We had identified a consultant and a Detailed Project Report (DPR) was prepared, which was shared with BBMP. In fact, cycle days and these developments were taking place simultaneously.”
Local residents have welcomed this project. Ravindra Kumar, a cycle enthusiast and a resident of HSR Layout, said, “It feels good to see such initiatives in our area. We have a lot of cycle enthusiast here and a large number of them come out to participate on cycle days.”
The 107th cycle day that took place this year, was hosted by Rotary club, Presidency club. Ever since it was kicked off in 2014, cycle days in HSR Layout are being organised every month on a Sunday.
