Bengaluru: Potholes to vanish before VIPs' arrival?

BENGALURU: Ahead of Invest Karnataka - 2016, BBMP has drawn a detailed plan of action to spruce up infrastructure on as many as 36 corridors to ensure smooth ride for VIPs and investors. Invest Karnataka will be held between February 3 and 5.
Following direction from Industries Minister R.V. Deshpande and other senior authorities, the BBMP has prepared an estimate for Rs 3.27 crore to ensure that all 36 corridors linking Palace Ground be made pothole free and asphalted, if necessary.
He also said that three entry and exit roads, kachcha road, falling within Palace Ground premises be developed, said BBMP special commissioner (Projects) J. Ravi Shankar.
The Palace Ground has entry and exit points on Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) road and Jayamahal Road.
The roads leading to KIA and Jayamahal roads are not paved and would be made motorable, he added.
Mechanical sweepers will be deployed to clean 20 of the 36 major roads and made zero garbage and zero debris stretches.
Bus stands and bays would be used to welcome investors and VIPs. Lane marking will be done and footpath vendors would be cleared, Shankar said.
The BBMP has been directed to ensure aesthetics, cleanliness and hygiene along all the roads leading to Palace Ground, where the Invest Karnataka is scheduled to held.
They will be made free from garbage and unauthorized hoardings. Kerbs of footpath and medians will be reset and painted, lane marking will be done for smooth driving.
All roads leading to Palace Ground will be cleared of unauthorized hoardings and banners, hanging overhead cables and garbage.
Inspection
Additional Chief Secretary along with BBMP commissioner G. Kumar Naik will conduct an inspection on January 23 evening to check the preparations being made by the BBMP to enhance infrastructure on 36 roads. All the roads linking to hotels and Palace Ground will be fixed.
Roads to be upgraded
The roads that are going to be upgraded are Jayamahal Road, Nandidurga Road, Ballary Road, Sankey Road, Race Course Road, Palace Cross Road, Cubbon Road, Lavelle Road, St. Johns Church Road, M.G. Road, Brigade Road, Millers Road, Malleswaram Main Road, Yeshwantpur Circle Road, Mahakavi Kuvempu Road, M.V. Jayaram Road, Vittal Mallya Road, Kasturba Road, Suranjandas Road, Richmond Road, Infantry Road, K.G. Road, Seshadri Road, Field Marshal Cariappa Road, St. Marks Road, Museum Road, Residency Road, HAL Airport Road, Old Madras Road, Double Road, Lalbagh Road and Nrupatunga Road.
