Hyderabad: Depressed over his daughter not getting a ticket, a Congress activist attempted suicide by pouring kerosene over himself at the Gandhi Bhavan on Thursday.

Kishore Goud, who was expecting a ticket from Kurmaguda division, wanted the party to give the ticket to his daughter, as the division was allocated for BC woman category.

According to sources, Mr Goud, a resident of Kurmaguda in Yakutpura constituency, had been working for the party for nearly 20 years and was one of the frontrunners to get a ticket.

He managed to shrug off the shock of the division being reserved for BC woman category, and proposed the ticket be given to his daughter Prasanna Goud. But when her name did not figure in the list announced by the party, Mr Goud was depressed.

“He went to the PCC chief’s car parking slot and poured kerosene over himself. Party workers and security personnel noticed him trying to set fire to himself and managed to stop him, said Begum Bazaar SI Madan Mohan. No case was registered.
