Chennai: Expressing confidence that she would return to power after the coming elections, Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary J. Jayalalithaa on Saturday said her party, a true public movement, is dedicated to people and will continue to serve Tamils for centuries even after her.

Replying to the debate on the motion of thanks to the Governor for his address to the Assembly, she said her government had fulfilled all promises made in the 2011 election manifesto.

She said, “What I wish to point out is that our activities and our schemes are for the people. We have no selfishness and we work for people. AIADMK is a true people’s movement and it has a leader, (Jayalalithaa) who is dedicated for the people. As long as the party and herself remain, the movement will grow and serve for the development of Tamils. Even after me, the AIADMK will function for the welfare of the people for centuries’’, she said.

However, the previous DMK government did not accord importance to people’s welfare and acted keeping their own welfare in mind. For a change, people voted for AIADMK in 2011.

People hoped for improvement in law and order and betterment of the deprived classes and welfare of all sections of life, including farmers, weavers, fishermen, the oppressed and poor.

She said the AIADMK lived up to the expectations of the people and their condition had improved during the party’s rule. The people think that this government should continue. Stating that “I am for people, I am because of people,” she said her government also acted on a similar principle.
