Hyderabad: Owners warned against lending vehicles to pals

In several instances, traffic cops caught minors driving the vehicle.

Hyderabad: Traffic police have booked over 1,300 cases against owners for giving their vehicle to persons without driving licence with cases  booked against both the driver and  owner.

In several instances, traffic cops caught minors driving the vehicle. Presently they levy fine of up to Rs 1,000 each on the driver and the vehicle owner and conusel them, soon they will start producing them in court. They are liable for imprisonment up to three months.

"Even minors caught driving would be produced in court. They can be sent to juvenile correctional centres. It is up to the judges to decide," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Hyderabad Traffic) Mr A V Ranganath told this correspondent

Traffic cops also warned that many people drive vehicle without transferring it on their names. Many e-challans issued for traffic violations went to "previous-owners" of the vehicle as they did not ensure that vehicle ownership (registration) was transferred.
