The move to tighten security following inputs from the Intelligence Bureau.
CHIKKAMAGALURU: As a precautionary measure, Chikkamagaluru police have barred entry to Datta Peeta, a disputed site for Hindus and Muslims. Besides, security at the holy town of Sringeri and Bhadra dam, other prominent locations in the district, has been tightened in the wake of terror threats especially with Republic Day around the corner.
The move to tighten security following inputs from the Intelligence Bureau. Confirming the closure of Datta Peeta, a cave shrine, Superintendent of Police Santosh Babu told Deccan Chronicle on Sunday said that the move to bar the entry of pilgrims to the cave shrine follows the threat perception across the country.
It is said that closure of the cave shrine would be in force for about three days till January 26. Police have also closed down shops on the way to Datta Peeta in the Chandradrona Hill range.
Besides, police have also tightened security at Bhadra reservoir in Tarikere taluk of the district in view of the threat perception. A police officer said, “We have enhanced security measures at the reservoir. Though there is no threat to the reservoir, we do not want to be negligent.”
Though there is no threat to the Sharada Math at Sringeri too, police have beefed up security in the temple town since the Math is a place for public congregations.
A police officer said no additional security personnel have been deployed for Sringeri. Including Hornadu, another temple town in the district, the security at all vital installations has been tightened.
