Coimbatore: TNHB allottees demand sale deeds
Residence are sore that the Housing Board is prolonging the delay.
COIMBATORE: Members of the Tamizhaga Veettu Vasathi Vaaria Orunkinaintha Othukeetalarkal Nala Sangam staged a protest condemning the Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNHB) for its prolonged delay in issuing sale deeds.
“Issuing of sale deeds has been delayed for more than two decades. Even families, who were allotted houses from 1990s to 2000, are yet to receive sale deeds. Despite holding several protests, the TNHB has been delaying the process of giving sale deeds,” said the association’s state general secretary K. Jayachandran.
Mainly families from Brindavan Nagar, Vettri Vinayagar Nagar, Brindavan Nagar, Uppilipalayam and Rajiv Gandhi Nagar took part in the protest demanding sale deeds.
“There are however 15,000 families in Coimbatore and 55,000 families across the state, who haven’t got their sale deeds,” he added.
The TNHB allottees claimed that due to delay in receiving sale deeds; they were paying interest, which goes up to a huge amount.
“For families that have settled more than the amount fixed by TNHB along with the interest rate, the excess amount should be returned along with the sale deeds. Despite the issue getting settled in court in many cases, the TNHB has been adapting delaying tactics in issuing the sale deeds,” said Mr Jayachandran.
The families withdrew their protest after officials of TNHB promised to give the sale deeds by March this year. “If there is further delay in giving the sale deeds, then we will further intensify our protests,” the protesters said.
