AIPSN calls ministers', VC's action disgraceful
It is disgraceful that discriminatory casteist practices go unabated in Indian universities.
Hyderabad: All India People's Science Network (AIPSN) called the acts of the University of Hyderabad Vice Chancellor Appa Rao, BJP ministers Smirti Irani and Bandaru Dattatreya disgraceful in pushing Rohith to commit suicide. It is disgraceful that discriminatory casteist practices go unabated in Indian universities and institutes of higher learning, the members said on Tuesday.
“What is disgraceful is that he was pushed to this extreme step by the actions of the VC (P.Appa Rao) and the Union Minister of State for Labour (Dattayreya), and their open support to the RSS student wing (ABVP). The Ministry of Human Resource Develop-ment (MHRD) supplied fuel to the fire, when it directed the university to curb the growing anti-national activities in the campus, an allegation forwarded to the MHRD by Mr. Bandaru Dattatreya,” AIPSN said in its official release.
The statement added that all the units of the AIPSN would organise protest meetings in their respective areas of influence against this shameful way that scholars are treated in institutions of learning, preference being given to caste and creed rather than to scholastic achievement.
Alok Pandey fails to escape angry students’ comments:
UoH proctor Dr. Alok Pandey, who was trending in social media for his Facebook posts endorsing RSS, deactivated his Facebook account to escape the ire. However, the students started posting about him again calling him a coward. Social media users had taken screenshots of his ‘controversial posts’.
The protesters said that by deactivating his account, he proved that he conspired to carry out RSS agenda by suspending the five Dalit students. “Rohith was protesting against the extreme right wing ideas of RSS. Alok Pandey wanted to retaliate. As a proctor, he misused his power to carry out the RSS agenda,” said Abhishek Nandan, a UoH students, in his post.
Six days ago, Dr Alok Pandey's alleged affiliation with the RSS became a matter of discussion after students started sharing screenshots of Pandey's Fb posts, in which he praises the RSS and BJP.
