Naidu calls for ground level research in science

Tirupati: Chief Minister N. Chan-drababu Naidu inaugurated the first A.P. Science Congress after the bifurcation of the combined Andhra Pradesh state at Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati on Wednesday.
The focal theme for the three-day conference is ‘Science for Smart Technologies.’
The A.P. Akademi of Sciences (APAS) has been organizing this event annually to promote interaction across disciplines at the national and international levels, besides popularizing science among teachers and students.
The Chief Minister said that a revolution in science and technology was in the offing in the country and stressed the need to ensure that its benefits reached the common man.
An alumnus of SV University himself, he called for fruitful deliberations among scientists and academicians on research in the science sector in the state.
Inviting novel ideas to develop digital technology and smart technology for smart cities, he emphasised the need for research at the field level.
He told the SVU VC to co-nduct international seminars and invite professors and scientists from around the globe to deliver speeches for the benefit of students.
He also pointed to the importance of tying up with the best universities in the country.
He hinted about plans to establish 15 universities in the state in the aqua, hospitality, energy, sports and water management areas.
The CM felicitated ISRO Chairman Dr A.S. Kira-nkumar, CCMB Director Dr Ch. Mohan Rao, Asian Institute of Gastroenterology’s Dr D. Nageswar Reddy, AP Skill Development Corporation Director Dr K. Lakshmi Narayana and Dr P. Rama Rao, former secretary Department of Science, and presented them lifetime achievement awards.
