Vijayawada: Bomb hoax calls create a flutter in city
Only after confirming that there was no threat, the police relaxed.
Vijayawada: A hoax call to the Police Control Room in Vijaya-wada has put Government Railway Police and Railway Protection Force personnel on toes on Wednesday afternoon.
Only after confirming that there was no threat, the police relaxed. However, security at the railway station has been strengthened in view of the threat call.
At around 3.30 pm on Wednesday, a man using mobile number registered at Kanigiri in Prakasam district made a call to the control room from Vijayawada limits and informed that there was a bomb planted in the railway station.
City police immediately alerted the railway police and search operation began with local bomb squad team and snifer dogs. Police, after thoroughly searching the station and verifying the call, found that it was a hoax call.
Police said that the number belongs to a man from Kanigiri. The man came to the city where his sons were working as daily labourers.
Police said that one of the man’s son made a call to the control room. A team of police rushed to the house of the caller and found an elderly woman.
She told the police that her son left for Vijayawada where her grandsons stay. The caller is yet to be traced.
Meanwhile, in Gudivada, a similar hoax call created a tense situation at the court complex. One of the land phones in the court received the hoax call from unknown persons who said that there was a bomb. Police rushed to the spot and found it was a hoax.
