2 B.E. students killed in road mishap at Kanchi

The deceased students were riding towards Vellore on Chennai-Bengaluru Highway, when they were fatally knocked down.

Chennai: Two engineering college students were killed in a hit-and-run incident reported near RTO office in neighbouring Kancheepuram, on Wednesday night.The deceased were identified as C. Hemanath, (19), and K. Rajesh, (21), the former a 3rd year student while the latter is in his final year, pursuing engineering in different private colleges.

They were riding towards Vellore on Chennai-Bengaluru Highway, when they were fatally knocked down.Hemanath, son of the fingerprint bureau police inspector Poonguili, serving in Kancheepuram, died on the spot. His friend Rajesh was moved to a hospital was declared dead on arrival.

Kancheepuram taluk police had registered a case and are on the lookout for the vehicle that caused the accident.On January 1, three trainee nurses in Saveetha Medical College were killed and four injured in a hit-and-run case near Sriperumbudur on Chennai-Bengaluru Highway.  That case is yet to be cracked.

Motorists had urged the district administration to step up surveillance to prevent hit-and-runs. They claimed that at least five fatalities are reported every month on Chennai–Bengaluru highway.
