Mumbai: 30-feet dead whale washes ashore at Juhu Beach

The whale, which approximately weighs around three to four tonnes, was spotted by locals around 10 pm on Thursday.

Mumbai: A 30-feet-long whale washed up at the Juhu beach in Mumbai on Thursday night. The whale is said to weigh three-four tonnes.

Locals, who spotted the dead whale around 10 pm, informed the police. According to reports, experts say the whale may have died in the last two days.

The Juhu Police were pressed into action after hundreds of citizens swarmed to the beach to take photographs. Extra personnel from Coastal Police unit were also roped in.

Earlier this month, carcasses of 45 whales were found washed ashore at a Tamil Nadu beach.

In June last year, a 42-foot-long blue whale was washed ashore at the Revdanda coast, about 17 kms south of Alibaug in the neighbouring Raigad district.

Forest officials had contacted marine biologists after spotting it when it was still alive and struggling to survive. However, the whale had later died.
