Bengaluru: Former railway minister C.K. Jaffer Sharief will hit the road from Friday to campaign for his grandson, Rehaman Sharief, the Congress candidate for the Hebbal Assembly by-election.

Mr Sharief told DC that he will be meeting KPCC President and Home Minister Dr G. Parameshwar on Friday to discuss the strategy to be adopted to win the seat. Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy and Energy Minister D.K. Shivakumar have been appointed by the party to oversee the party campaign.

The grand old man of the Congress, Mr Sharief was optimistic that all Muslim leaders of Congress in Bengaluru city would campaign for his grandson. “I have already requested all of them to sincerely make efforts to help Congress win this seat. I am sure that they will actively participate in the campaign and seize the seat from BJP which had won it in 2013.”

Meanwhile, sources close to Mr Sharief told this paper that it was inevitable for him to ensure the victory of his grandson since the ticket had been won with great effort. Mr Sharief will need the co-operation of all ministers from Bengaluru especially local Muslim leaders as the minorities play a vital role in this constituency.
