The resident welfare associations of many wards have not forgotten the inefficiency of the corporators and the contesting relatives of MLAs and MPs have not been spared.
The daughter-in-law of Malkajgiri MLA C. Kanaka Reddy was asked about her father-in-law's inability to protect the lakes in his constituency. The GHMC has collected '5,100 crore in the last five years. That means each ward should have got works worth '7 crore a year or '35 crore in five years. However, as per the GHMC website wards got less than '5 crore in the last 5 years.
Mr Dev Kumar, a resident of Bolaram, said that Bolaram alone generated '6 crore a year as taxes. However, these taxes go for maintenance of upmarket areas and only '1 crore was spent in Bolaram. “We don’t get any stadiums, 100 feet roads or automatic signals. Why is Bolaram not developed like Banjara or Jubilee Hills.”
The residents continue to demand a solution to the dog menace, removal of encroachments from footpaths, government lands, lakes and illegal buildings from roads.
