HYDERABAD: Hyderabad girl Suhani Jain, who topped the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) with a perfect 800/800 score, got into her dream college Shri Ram College of Commerce of Delhi University this week. One of three toppers who scored 100 percentile in four out of five papers of the undergraduate entrance test, she says mock tests and time management skills helped her crack the tests.

Despite calling English the toughest subject, she scored 100. "The English tests in school were mostly about literature and measured our writing skills, while the CUET tested our grammar, vocabulary and comprehension skills. With this being only the second time that the exam has been conducted, it was also difficult to get any 'model papers' to work on," she said, adding that she was to answer 50 questions in 45 minutes and effective planning helped ace the test.

Accountancy, Business Studies, and Economics were the other subjects she scored a 100 in. Jain who studied Mathematics, Economics and Commerce in her +2, chose to pursue a degree in Commerce. "Along with BCom, I want to train to be a chartered accountant, as my family is full of them. I always knew this is what I wanted to study since my early school days," she told Deccan Chronicle.

Her parents Sanjay Kumar Jain, who is the additional director general of police (law and order) and artist Ritu Jain, said that they had always given their daughter the freedom to choose what she wanted to do. "We would've supported her no matter which path she decides to take and we're happy with this choice as well," Ritu said.

The 17-year-old was confident she would do well in the test but topping it sure was a surprise. "I'm usually the kind that doesn't want to think about the exam once I'm done with it, so on results day, I was only hoping to get through with flying colours. I am so glad to have scored well enough to get into DU," she said. Jain is making the most of her time, with friends and family, before she will set off to Delhi as her classes begin in the second week of August.
