'Tujhe Yaad Na Meri Aayi' singer Manpreet Akhtar passes away

Manpreet was known for her classical style of singing in Punjabi and Hindi movies.

Mumbai: Noted Punjabi folk singer Manpreet Akhtar today passed away due to brain hemorrhage at a local hospital in Patiala. She was 55. Manpreet was known for her classical style of singing and she sang songs in Punjabi and Hindi movies.

Some of her famous Punjabi songs were 'Beriye Ni', 'Nikdi sui' and 'Bas Ek Gera Gidhe Vich'. She also sang 'Tujhe Yaad Na Meri Aye' in Karan Johar's 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai'. Manpreet was the sister of famous Punjabi singer Dilshad Akhtar. Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal expressed profound grief over the demise of Manpreet.

In his message, Sukhbir said Manpreet was an accomplished folk singer who achieved great success and respect in the film industry due to her dedication and complete mastery over the art of singing. Sukhbir said that during her illustrious career she had many chartbusters to her credit for which people would cherish her memory forever. The minister said that she carried forward the legacy left by her brother late Dilshad Akhtar in a very dignified manner.

Badal said he prays to the almighty to grant eternal peace to the departed soul and courage to the bereaved family to bear this loss.
