After Prabhas-Amitabh Bachchan’s socio-fantasy ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ spun box office and early in the year, 'HanuMan’ rocked the box office in North India, it appears that Hindi film viewers are waiting to watch Telugu superstars Allu Arjun (Pushpa 2), Jr NTR (Devara) and Ram Charan (Game Changer) who are set to rock box office. “NTR has promoted his film 'Devara' quite well in Mumbai and other places. He is popular among Hindi viewers after ‘RRR’. He is teaming with Bollywood actors like Saif Ali Khan and Janhvi Kapoor and expectations in the Hindi market are soaring high,” says a Hindi distributor who claims that Bollywood is surely waiting for Telugu movies to mint some big money.
But not everyone endorses this view in toto. They feel good content is the ultimate winner. “I agree that Bollywood is awaiting the release of a few Telugu movies, but I disagree with the notion that they are banking on Telugu stars,” says ace producer Vishnu Induri, who made Bollywood films like 83 and Thalaivi. “Hindi superstars rocked the box office last year and re-established their crowd-pulling prowess over others. Simply put, Bollywood has its strengths and weaknesses,” he adds.
However, he admits that 'Pushpa The Rule' is much-awaited since the first part created ripples in the Hindi heartland. “Allu Arjun’s film has triggered a buzz in the trade markets as well,” he says. Prabhas’s upcoming Kalki 2898 AD has also evoked interest in Bollywood, he notes. “Prabhas has surely expanded his fan base among Hindi viewers over the years and naturally, his recent sci-fi thriller minted gold,” he concludes.
After Prabhas proved his crowd-pulling prowess once again, his colleagues and Telugu superstars like NTR, Allu Arjun, and Ram Charan are trying to expand their fan base. “These stars are very popular among Hindi film viewers but their films should have solid content and novelty to strike a chord with non-Telugu speaking viewers,” concludes another distributor.
