Indo-Canadian Punjabi artist AP Dhillon has expressed his outrage and disappointment over the horrific rape and murder of a young woman in Kolkata. The incident has sparked widespread outrage across the country, with celebrities from all walks of life condemning the heinous crime.

He took to his Instagram stories today and wrote “woke up today wanting to let my thoughts out the only way I know how…” followed by a video with a tribute song with heartbroken emojis
The self-penned poignant song seeking justice for the rape and murder victim, talked about the innate power of women and how society continues to fail them with recurring cycle of such incidents and the lack of substantial change.
“She has saved many lives and souls. God, how could her fate end so tragically? She was not safe even in a place where everyone knew her. Today, we all ask you, is it a curse to be born a girl in this world? For the women who have transformed the world, society has refused to change around them, though they have swum oceans worth of progress, society has barely moved an inch. What happened 12 years ago continues to happen today. Why do we still have to march for women to live in peace?,” read the lyrics of his video.
The singer-songwriter, rapper and record producer’s heartbreaking video was one among many celebrity clarion calls that highlighted the country’s unsafe environment for women and how even after 78 years of Independence, there has been no relief for women. Previously, Twinkle Khanna, Kangana Ranaut, Alia Bhat, Swara Bhaskar, Ayushmann Khurrana, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Parineeti Chopra, Preity Zinta, Mimi Chakraborty, Richa Chadha, Swara Bhasker and Tisca Chopra joined the chorus of collective voices demanding for justice for the victim.
For the unversed, the gruesome rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor and second-year student at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has shaken the entire country. The brutal incident has ignited widespread outrage, leading to intense strikes and protests across Kolkata. Demonstrators took to the streets, demanding 'strict' action against the culprits.
