Exclusive: Yami Gautam asks brand to revise strategy after fairness creams debate
The actress' response comes after Abhay Deol raised the issue of racism in India.
After all the flak that fairness cream commercials have attracted lately, actress Yami Gautam, brand ambassador for Fair & Lovely has asked the brand to revamp their marketing strategy. She insists that she is taking the criticism in a positive way. “It’s unfair to put someone in the spotlight for something negative and overlook the positive things that they have done. As for the issue of fairness cream ads, I have had meetings with the brand and they have decided to revise the concept of their ads. Now, they won’t show being less fair as something uncool,” promises the actress.
She further added, “I am actually going to take this debate about fairness creams in a positive way, since now it will push the brands to think about new ways in which the ads can be made.”
The actress’ response comes after Abhay Deol raised the issue of racism in India, which stirred a debate against fairness creams and B’town celebs who endorse them. The statement received a lot of support.
