Watch: Pritam works his musical genius in Jagga Jasoos' Ulla Ka Pattha
The long delayed Anurag Basu directorial stars Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif in the lead roles.
Mumbai: Pritam might have often been subjected to serious plagiarism allegations but the fact remains that he's among the best music producers in the country today.
And some of his best works have come when he has collaborated with Anurag Basu, be it 'Life In a Metro,' or the strikingly haunting 'Barfi'.
And if one's go by the looks of the first song from the duo's latest collaboration, the Ranbir Kapoor-Katrina Kaif starrer 'Jagga Jasoos,' the composer well on course to pull an encore.
The song, 'Ullu Ka Pattha,' has some amazing orchestral genius augmenting it.
The song has a rich guitaring base, reminiscent of the acoustic fingerstyle minimalism of Gustavo Santaolalla and the movingly melancholic Nick Drake. The song starts off reminding one of the indie favourite Sufjan Steven's 'Should've Known Better'.
However, the song succeeds in creating an identity of its own, with Pritam's trademark rhythmic groove and the ever-so-dependable Arijit who delivers a freshness that he ironically conjures up, in despite of his monopolistic omnipresence across Bollywood soundtracks today.
Nikitha Gandhi, who joins Arijit on the track, which has a delectably mild South American flavour to it, delivers the huskiness and nonchalance that was expected of her vocals.
'Jagga Jasoos,' said to be a musical with nearly 30 songs in it, has definitely got off to a flying start with this cracker of a song.
