Rock On 2 re-shot, 2 weeks before release
This is the first time that portions of a film have been re-shot so close to its official release date.
Just weeks before its release, Rock On 2, the sequel to Indian cinema’s first rock concert drama Rock On, has been re-shot.
Reason? A source close to the development says it was to ‘enhance’ the product. “When Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani sat down with director Shujaat Saudagar for the film’s editing, they all felt that the film would be far more riveting and tightly-assembled if some portions were re-shot. They all agreed on approximately ten days of re-shooting,” says the source.
The shooting was undertaken in an atmosphere of utmost secrecy. The content of the additional shoot has been kept a complete secret. According to sources, however, director Shujaat Saudagar has re-shot a live performance by the entire band consisting of Farhan, Shraddha Kapoor, Arjun Rampal, Purab Kohli and Shashank Arora.
It is not unusual for films to be re-shot in patches or even extensively. Nearly 30 per cent of the forthcoming Ranbir Kapoor-Katrina Kaif starrer Jagga Jasoos has been re-shot. Anurag Basu’s earlier film Barfi also underwent extensive re-shooting.
“But re-shooting so close to release, as has been done with Rock On 2, is an uncommon occurrence,” adds the source.
