2.0 box-office collection day 4: Rajinikanth, Akshay Kumar's film is on dream run

2.0' has received the widest release for an Indian film yet at 10,000 screens worldwide across Hindi, Tamil and Telugu languages.

The excited and anxious team behind Shankar's long-awaited opus 2.0, featuring Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar in confrontational combat, has just completed editing the footage.

Mumbai: Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar starrer 2.0 is on a winning streak at the box office. Within just four days after its release, 2.0 has already entered the Rs 200-crore club. Not just in India, the film is breaking box office records worldwide.

‘2.0’ has received the widest release for an Indian film yet at 10,000 screens worldwide across Hindi, Tamil and Telugu languages. With the fantastic numbers still coming in, it's been estimated that 2.0 will soon be crowned as the highest-grossing Tamil film ever.

The film has earned Rs 400 crore net worldwide, leaving behind Fantastic Beasts, reports trade analyst Ramesh Bala.

The film is also going strong in India and has registered a good growth over the weekend. The Hindi version of the film collected Rs 95 crore on the opening weekend, tweeted trade analyst Taran Adarsh. He wrote, "#2Point0 puts up a SUPERB TOTAL in its *extended* opening weekend... Biz on Day 3 and Day 4 specifically was fantastic... Thu 19.50 cr, Fri 17.50 cr, Sat 24 cr, Sun 34 cr. Total: ₹ 95 cr. India biz. Note: HINDI version.”

Directed by S Shankar, 2.0 is made on a whopping budget of around Rs 550 crore. Rajinikanth has a triple role in the film, which marks the return of Dr Vaseegaran and the robot named Chitti from the 2010 film Enthiran (Robot in Hindi) and a mini robot named 3.0. Akshay Kumar plays a baddy in the film that also stars Amy Jackson as the female lead.

The film has received mixed to positive reviews for its VFX, great Atmos sound and special effects.

In the film review, Deccan Chronicle critic Anupama Subramanian wrote: "Incorporating stunning VFX, an up-tempo screenplay, and an active background score, the enterprising director has attempted to make a film that would take you to another world and consume your attention. And true to his word, some of those aspects definitely do materialize in your viewing experience."

2.0 was released on November 29, 2018.
