Pia Bajpai, the Ko actress, who was last seen in Laal Rang in Hindi, is all set with her next B’wood feature —  Mirza Juuliet alongside Darshan Kumar. In a candid chat, she talks about her bold role, doing films on her gut feeling and sex being a pivotal part of her films.

What is Mirza Juuliet all about?
I got an amazing response from the trailer — it is a very happy and a cute love story. There is some politics happening in between two families and we have presented that in a nice way. I believe the ‘X factor’ of the film is the fact that is based in a small town called Mirzapur where all the characters and the look of the film is really looking great. One will relate to this love story. The film has nothing to do with the ‘Romeo and Juliet’ kind of romance.

How difficult was it for you to do a bold act after playing a subtle role in Laal Rang?
It was not at all tough actually. We shot the film in Mirzapur and my character Julie Shukla is from there. I also belong to Uttar Pradesh in real life! Apart from the abuses and cuss words I have used in the film, I am like Julie Shukla in many ways back home. I feel UP girls have raw characters in their own personalities. This is the way I am too. Every person looks different there — they might look sweet from the outside, but behave the opposite, in fact.

Tell us more about your character?
Julie Shukla is a bold girl, who talks about sex and abuses carefree. Whatever she speaks in the film is her day-to-day language. There is no one to stop her, but she is curious about many things because of her protected upbringing. She heard noises in the nights from her brother's house, so she is curious!

Sex has always been a pivotal part in all your three Hindi films…
God knows (laughs). One day, I was thinking why directors come to me with a script, where sex is an important part of my character. It is a mere coincidence, I guess. Maybe when I talk about sex, I look cute?

Why you are so picky in choosing your films?
After I did Laal Rang, I did Virgins which went viral and I was happy. I just did one amazing Tamil film. I am always picky because you are as good as your last film. Laal Rang was a great film, so I don't want to rush. I don't have to answer to anyone.

Whatever you have done in your last film — your worth is that much. Whenever I go for the narrations, I get gut feelings if  it is good or bad. I got good vibes from Laal Rang, The Virgins, Mirza Juuliet... so I did them.
