Yami Gautam and Pulkit Samrat have made news recently not just for their on-screen camaraderie, but off screen proximity as well. The two talk about their much-speculated private lives, their upcoming film and much more.

This is your second film as a lead pair. Do you think that as a couple you are a powerful brand on-screen?
Pulkit: I don’t think so, but I am happy that people liked us together on-screen.

Yami: I think filmmakers have cashed in on our chemistry. When we both signed Junooniyat, Divya saw our rushes and decided to sign us for Sanam Re.

There has been much speculation about your alleged romantic interest in each other…
Yami: You are first one to ask this question during film promotions. I have heard so many rumours (about the alleged relationship), that I have stopped reacting to them. There is no explanation to it. I think the media business today is about cut, copy and paste. If today you write something, within a few minutes, other media houses will pick it up. I am sure even people are bored of this news.

There’s no smoke without fire, one would say…
Pulkit: Fire is on-screen, totally. But there is no truth to this.

Both of you have one hit film to your credit (Fukrey and Vicky Donor). The ones that followed didn’t quite make the cut. How do you deal with failure?
Yami: There is a lot to learn from those failures.

Pulkit: Failure is when you give up. I believe I have only grown as a person and as an actor, from my failures so far.

What is your reaction to people comparing Junooniyat with Sanam Re?
Yami: Junooniyat is a very unique film. It has no similarity with Sanam Re, except for the snow-clad mountains. If it were a sequel to Sanam Re, then the makers would have announced it long ago. Interestingly, we had signed Junooniyat before Sanam Re.

Pulkit: Since Yami and I were last seen in Sanam Re, people are assuming it to be a similar film, but Junooniyat is a very different love story where a girl falls for an army commando and her family is against it. Apart from the crew, nothing is similar in these two films.

What is your role like in Junooniyat?
Pulkit: I am playing an army commando in the film. I believe my character in the film will break the cliché of army men being strict. My character will show his human and funny side. He loves his country, but also madly loves Suhani.

Yami: I am playing Suhani, who is a desi girl. She also comes from an army background. It is a real life story, so it was great to play this character.
