It's official! Karan Johar to remake Sairat with Jhanvi and Ishaan Khatter
The critically acclaimed Marathi film will star Jhanvi and Ishaan in the lead.
Mumbai: It’s official! Jhanvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter will play the young couple in Karan Johar’s version of the phenomenal Marathi hit 'Sairat.'
Ishaan was zeroed in to play the Dalit boy who falls in love with a Brahmin girl.
However, Karan was divided between casting Sara Ali Khan and Jhanvi Kapoor, since he had committed to launching both the star-daughters.
“It was a toss-up between Sara and Jhanvi for the female lead. Finally, Jhanvi bagged it, but Karan is still committed to introducing Sara in a befitting film,” says a source in the know.
Shashank Khaitan, who directed the hit 'Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya' for Dharma Productions, has been given the responsibility of the Hindi adaptation of 'Sairat.'
The script would be attuned to modern-day audience sensibilities. The girl will be from an affluent background, while the boy would be brazenly rugged.
Says a source, “The mounting of the film will be larger than life as expected of Dharma Productions. Keeping the real and raw dramatic conflict central to the story, there won’t be a compromise on the production values. Shashank’s comfort zone is a rustic love story. So, it’s bound to look good.”
