URI is inspiring people, says Yami Gautam

Mumbai: Stunning, talented and high on the colossal success of Uri, actress Yami Gautam was in town for the Blenders Pride Magical Nights as she graced the stage as the showstopper for designer Rina Dhaka. In quick tete-e-tete with us, the actor got candid about life post Uri, her tryst with south Indian films and more….

Talking about how life has change for her post Uri, a film that went on to become a blockbuster, Yami says, “The success of the movie is very special — I wouldn’t weigh it in numbers, but the fact that people have gone out of their way to express their love on social media and in person, is great. I met someone at the Bengaluru airport — the lady has two daughters — one is six and the other is nine and both of them wanted to join the army! They celebrated the film for ten days and couldn’t get it out of their system. So, people have been inspired by the film and take it back home not just as a movie, but as something that changed their lives in a good way - I’d count that as an achievement.” While she’s moving on to her next film, which she isn’t allowed to talk about yet, Yami maintains that she wouldn’t want to take any baggage from the success of Uri and wants to make a fresh beginning with the next.

As for roles she likes to play, the actress reveals, “I love watching all genres — from costume dramas to action and romantic films,, but I’d like to play a warrior princess someday — an out and out action-based film.”

Talk veers to fashion and Yami admits that it’s her sister Surilie who updates her with the latest trends.”She takes care of everything. Even if I’m asleep, she’ll wake me up and tell me about the latest stuff. Also, we work every day in film and shoots, so even if you don’t want to, you end up updating yourself with the latest in fashion. I don’t make a very special effort to do it.When I’m not working, I carry myself in the most casual and comfortable way, if that turns out looking fashionable, then it’s my luck!”

Interestingly, Yami made her film debut with the Kannada flick Ullasa Utsaha opposite Ganesh. Is she planning to take on more projects in the south? “Nothing as of now. But if there’s something that compels me to do a film - the role, the filmmaker or the script, then I’d do it. As for Bengaluru, it’s never failed to show me love and enthusiasm. When I look back at how I looked in my first movie, it’s nice to say that I got a lot of love even back then!” she quips.
