The original movie was based on the popular novel by John Greene.

Mumbai: It’s been a while since the remake of 2014’s American romantic drama The Fault In Our Stars has been in the news. Early rumours suggested that  Karan Johar had bought the rights for the movie, and planned to remake it with Alia Bhatt in the lead. Later we heard that the remake could be a launchpad for Shahid Kapoor’s brother Ishaan Khattar and Sridevi’s Jhanvi Kapoor. Well, with the latest development in the news it is finally confirmed that Sushant Singh Rajput has been roped in to play male lead in the film.

As per the story in Mumbai Mirror, Sushant will play character of Augustus Waters originally acted by Ansel Elgort. Produced by Fox Star Studios, this remake would mark the directorial debut of the casting director, Mukesh Chabbra.

Mukesh was the one who introduced Sushant to Abhishek Kapoor for Kai Po Che! He had always wanted to work with him and felt he would be perfect for this film. He is currently on the lookout for his leading lady. Though inspired by the Hollywood film, the script will be adapted to Indian sensibilities,”

Casting of other actors including the leading lady is in the process.

Chhabra confirmed the news, saying, “Yes, I am on board for The Fault in Our Stars remake. I’m working on the script at the moment. Sushant is the leading man and we are still in the process of casting the heroine.”

The American film featured Shailene Woodley, Ansel Elgort, and Nat Wolff.  The story revolves around Hazel Grace Lancaster, played by Woodley, a 16-year-old teenager and Augustus Waters, played by Ansel Elgort. It was a weepy, mushy tale of  two cancer-afflicted teens who fall in love with each other.

Currently Sushant Singh Raput is filming Abhishek Kapoor’s Kedarnath alongside Sara Ali Khan.
