Sanjay Dutt, whose biopic is under process, wanted to play his father in the film?
Sanjay was extremely close to his dad and thought he could emulate him better than any other actor.
Mumbai: Sanjay Dutt, whose biopic by ace Director Rajkumar Hirani is under process, wanted to play his actor-turned-politician father, Sunil Dutt’s, role in the film. But the role has gone to veteran actor paresh Rawal while Sanju Baba’s part will be portrayed by Ranbir Kapoor
After contemplating about portraying his Daddy’s character for a while, the star finally gave up on this idea as it would have been a little odd for him and also divide the spotlight between the reel and real Dutt.
A source close to the development told a leading daily, “Sanjay has given over 200 hours of recording as basic matter for the biopic. While Hirani was writing the film, Sanjay was toying with the idea of playing Sunil Dutt because as a father, he was the one person who had closely seen the ups and downs in his life. Sanjay was extremely close to his dad, and he thought he could emulate him better than any other actor. But he dropped the idea, even before letting his buddy Raju know what he had on his mind, and allowed him to choose an actor who'd be perfect to play the late actor.
Dutt Jr has, however, not commented on this.
Ranbir Kapoor, on the other hand, is doing his best to pick up Dutt’s mannerisms and step into the shoes of this two-time Filmfare Award-winner. Hirani has started shooting for the film.
