Mumbai: Shabana Azmi has wished actress Jaya Bachchan on her birthday and said that it was her Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) film 'Suman', which inspired her to take up acting in films. Jaya has turned 69 today.

Shabana took to Twitter to wish the 'Kal Ho Naa Ho' actress on her special day.

"Salgirah mubarak (Happy birthday) #JayaBachchan I joined films because of FTII film 'Suman' in which you played the lead with such freshness," wrote Shabana, alongside a still of Jaya's from one of her earlier films. Both Shabana and Jaya are FTII alumni.

'Suman' was one of the early diploma films of FTII, made in 1970s.

The over-15-minute-long movie narrates the story of an adolescent village girl and her mental transition from a juvenile state of mind to that of adulthood.
