Vijay Varma to share screen with Amitabh Bachchan in upcoming film Pink

There has been no looking back for city-born Vijay Varma, whose debut film, Chittagong won two National Awards. The actor will soon be seen in Pink, where he stars with Amitabh Bachchan.

Varma was super excited to be back home to promote the film. “I keep visiting Hyderabad almost every three months as my family is here. But coming here for Pink makes it extra special.” Elaborating on his role, he says, “I play a hot-headed Delhi guy, whose morals are messed up.”

Playing a negative character needs a lot of preparation, the actor says: “We were put into workshops before the shoot. We had to really know each other to deliver our best. But my theatre experience and college training helped me a lot.”

Varma admits that working with Bollywood biggies, Shoojit Sircar and Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury was a great learning experience as well. Varma recalls, “Mr Bachchan has that power to engulf everything. When he is around, everybody talks in whispers. He is very humble.”

And though Vijay had many memorable moments during filming, the one that stands out is with Sr Bachchan himself. “On the second day of the shoot, Bachchan sir was coming out of his van when I saw Taapsee photobombing him while he was being shot by a photographer. I also photobombed him, although later, I was scared, thinking about his reaction. The next day, he called me and showed me the photograph, which to my surprise, he had posted on his blog,” Vijay reminisces.

On why he took it slow after his 2012 debut, Varma says that the script and director matter while signing a film. “I can work in any film if the script is fine and I can trust the director. After completing Rangrezz, Priyadarshan had told me that I would be flooded with offers from Tollywood. But I didn’t even get a single call! Hopefully, I will get to work in my own city if I get the right offer,” he says. Vijay will next be seen in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Yaara and Raag Desh next year.
