Direction is not gender-specific: Daisy Shah
Actress Daisy Shah found working under Kalaiarasi Sathappan interesting
Actress Daisy Shah’s upcoming thriller, Mystery of Tattoo, starring Arjun Rampal, has generated a lot of curiosity. The psychological thriller revolves around a girl who tries to unravel the mystery behind a murder.
“I get entangled in the crime, and the drama unfolds,” shares the actress, adding that this was the first time she was trying her hand at this genre. Daisy plays an art therapist in the film and had to learn painting to make the role look authentic.
“Art therapy is a process that’s employed to improve the physical and emotional well-being of people. So I had to understand the process of painting, because I needed the mindset of an artist” she explains.
The film was directed by Kalaiarasi Sathappan under Ganesh Mahadevan’s supervision, and working with a female director was another first for Daisy. Ask her about working with a woman filmmaker, and Daisy promptly replies, “Direction is not gender-specific.”
The Hate Story 3 actress says, “Art doesn’t have any gender, and the fact that it was a woman filmmaker didn’t make any difference to me because the process doesn’t change. And it’s nice to see women filmmakers coming up without any discrimination.”
But she also feels that, having worked with male directors so far, working with a woman did make an interesting change. Most of the crew was from Chennai, and Daisy says this didn’t cause any difficulties.
Before coming into films, Daisy worked as a dance choreographer and assisted Ganesh Acharya. The actress says that the stint helped her.
“I wasn’t camera shy, because I was already familiar with it,” she reveals. Sharing that life in cinema had made her wiser, she says meeting people from different walks of life had taught her many lessons. “Working with creative people will influence thought process and make you unassuming,” the actress says.
