Mumbai: A whodunit thriller directed by Sujoy Gosh, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu, Badla might not have gathered audience on its first day, but is now going from strength to strength.

After being dwarfed considerably by Marvel’s first female-led superhero film Captain Marvel on day one the second day collections on Saturday were far better and Sunday is being said to have started off well.

“The first day collections of Badla was Rs 5.04 crore and the second day seemed to have a huge jump with Rs 8.55 crore. In fact, its day one collection was better than that of Pink another Bachchan-Pannu starrer that was Rs 4.32 crore.

Another Bachchan starrer 102 Not Out had opened at Rs 3.52 crore only, and these films too picked up soon by word of mouth. Captain Marvel took a fantastic opening at  Rs 12.75 crore on the first day, but had a mild growth on the second day to end at a little less than Rs 14 crore, taking the two-day collection to over Rs 26 crore,” informs a trade source.

But it does seem that in the longer run, Captain Marvel will go on to be one of the biggest Hollywood grossers this year. According to the Box Office India report,  Captain Marvel took the best opening of the year at around 45-50 per cent. Now, with only Milan Talkies and Photograph up for release next week, Badla too seems to have a clear run till the Akshay Kumar-starrer Kesari (directed by Anurag Singh) arrives on March 21.
