Since the Badumba song from 102 Not Out, sung and composed by Amitabh Bachchan, hit the market, one can’t stop talking about yet another talent of the actor — that of being a music composer.

However, the actor confesses that Badumba is not the first song composed by him. Yes, you heard that right. “I have composed several songs in the past as well. For the 1981 film Kaalia, the song jahan teri yeh nazar hai... was given by me to Pancham (R.D. Burman). Baghban had several of my compositions and I sang Baabul in Nishabd. I even did Hanuman Chalisa with late music composer and friend Aadesh Shrivastava,” says Amitabh.

The megastar then goes on to reveal his musical plans. “I am in the process of doing some of my father’s (Harivansh Rai Bachchan) work that will be released soon. I have already sung some verses from Madhushala where Aadesh gave the music. More is being composed and developed. I am also remixing some of my other songs, giving it my own musical interpretation. Let’s see how it goes,” says the Paa actor with a smile.

Talking about his recent composition for 102 Not Out, Amitabh says the Badumba Zumba Zumba was an afterthought. “On the last day of the shoot, I told Umeshji (director Umesh Shukla) that we need to have a song for the film. Because I feel music is an attraction these days. I felt a song would enhance the positioning of the film,” he recalls.

And the song to which the director didn’t agree initially, went on to become the promotional song of the film. “Umeshji said there was no space for a song. But I didn’t give up. I composed the song, arranged a rough music to it and sang. And he liked it. But because there was no space in the film we decided to use it as a promotional song. And now, it is in the film,” he says.
