Best thing to happen to Indian cinema: Twitterati on Nihalani's ouster as CBFC Chief
Pahlaj Nihalani, during his tenure as the chief disappointed many filmmakers and viewers with his style of work.
Mumbai: The entire nation is beaming with joy on the news of Pahlaj Nihalani being sacked as the chief of the Central Bureau of Film Certification (CBFC).
Nihalani has been replaced by popular lyricist Prasoon Joshi to take over the responsibility of certifying films.
Majority of the audience has welcomed this change with their arms wide open.
Pahlaj Nihalani, during his tenure as the chief disappointed many filmmakers and viewers with his style of work, where he used the wrath of ‘sanskaari’ cuts on prints of the film. With recent example being Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s ‘Babumoshai Bandookbaaz,’ where he passed 48 cuts, which almost leaves nothing in the film.
CBFC, during Pahlaj’s occupancy went to the extent of certifying films beased on their content. The victim of this orthodox mentality of Pahlaj waas Alankrita Srivastava’s ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’.
The film was denied certification citing the reason that the film was too ‘women-oriented.’
The ex-CBFC chief, Pahlaj Nihalani, has already become the face of several memes and here are few dew drops of tweets from the ocean of sarcastic tweets floating on Twitter.
