Legend has it that Allaudin Khilji, the fierce Islamic ruler, only got a glimpse of the beauteous Rani Padmavati in a mirror. Apparently, when Khilji expressed a desire to get a glimpse of the queen, she agreed to offer it at one condition — that it will be through a mirror. Hence, in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s depiction of the story, Ranveer who plays Khilji, will have a look at Deepika’s Padmavati in the reflection of a mirror.

Since the mirror plays a very important prop in the film, SLB is making sure that it is grand, much like his vision for the film. Says a source, “It would be no ordinary mirror. Made of the finest wood that money can buy and carved on the borders with the most elegant designs ever conceived, this mirror would be a work of art and a joy forever.” According to an insider, the mirror would cost a small fortune. “Enough to fund three of Anurag Kashyap’s films (excluding Bombay Velvet) and six of Onir’s experimental yarns,” he quips.
