Era of horror-comedies
Bollywood is set to dive headfirst into the horror-comedy genre
In what seems like a comedy of horrors, Bollywood is set to dive headfirst into the horror-comedy genre.
Producers Dinesh Vijan and Bhushan Kumar had made the Rajkummar Rao-Shraddha Kapoor starrer Stree, which also starred Aparshakti Khurrana and was directed by Amar Kaushik. The the two makers collaborated again for Roohi Afza directed by Hardik Mehta, which stars Rao, Janhvi Kapoor and Varun Sharma in a crucial role. Shraddha Kapoor will also be playing a role in the film.
Additionally, there is one more film being planned in the same space, and all actors in these films have been told not to sign on any other horror-comedy to keep the sanctity of their horror-comedy universe intact.
“The makers who have contacted these actors for horror comedies have been told that they have an exclusive horror-comedy contract, and hence cannot do anything outside. That would mean that even Janhvi Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao will only feature in these horror comedies produced by Dinesh and Bhushan, and will keep being seen in each other’s films as well. That would mean that when there is a third film, there will be a lot more actors in that, like how Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh will make cameos as Singham and Simmba in Sooryavanshi,” explains a trade source.
