Things seem to be falling in place for a biopic on wrestler Karanam Malleswari, India’s first woman Olympic medal winner. We have learnt that writer Kona Venkat of Kona Film Corporation has bagged the rights for this venture.
Kona has been wanting to bring the inspiring story of the wrestler to the silver screen and he’s glad that things have started materialising.
Kona and Malleswari met a few times recently and held extensive discussions about making the biopic. Both of them are excited and they are looking forward to the film.
A source from the unit says “There’s a lot of drama surrounding Malleswari’s journey. Her struggles, the way she overcame them and how she eventually bagged the Olympic medal make for an inspiring tale.”
The filmmakers have reportedly done extensive research and gathered data on the wrestler to make sure that the biopic has all the interesting ingredients.
Since Malleswari is known across India, the filmmakers are planning to release the movie in multiple languages, including Hindi. In this regard, the filmmakers will be collaborating with either a Bollywood production house or a corporate house,” adds the source.
While Kona is giving final touches to the script, the filmmakers are trying to zero-in on a director. “There are a couple of names from both Bollywood and Tollywood doing the rounds; however, the director will be finalised only after the script is locked,” says another source.
