Hyderabad/Mumbai: Nitin Kapoor, the husband of actor Jayasudha, committed suicide in Mumbai on Tuesday afternoon. He was 58.
The couple married in 1985, and has two sons, Nihal Kapoor, a documentary filmmaker, and Shreayan Kapoor, a shotgun-shooter and film actor.
Nitin Kapoor was a cousin of yesteryear Bollywood actor Jeetendra. Reports said Nitin jumped from the terrace of a five-floor building in which his sister was staying, in Andheri West, Mumbai, at about 1.45 pm. He was staying at his sister’s house.
Ms Jayasudha and her sons rushed to Mumbai on hearing the news. “We just landed in Mumbai and can’t say anything right now,” said Mr Nihal Kapoor.
Suicide was soon after check up
Kapoor’s family had taken him to a hospital Andheri for psychiatric treatment. The incident took place minutes after they had returned from the hospital.
But a source here denied depression was a cause. “The family is well settled and there was no reason for him be depressed,” the source said.
According to sources, Nitin’s sister and brother had committed suicide too. A family source said there was no financial problem. Ms Jayasudha is well-settled and has her own properties in Hyderabad. She had produced many Telugu films with her husband.
The couple’s younger son Shreayan Kapoor had made his debut in Tollywood with Basthi a few years ago. He also won a silver medal in the junior nationals in skeet shooting.
Ms Jayasudha’s recent film Sathamanam Bhavathi was a success at the box office. She played the lead role along with Prakash Raj. However, a few days ago, the producer of the film, Dil Raju, lost his wife to cardiac arrest.
