While speculation was rife over whether Sushant Singh Rajput and Sanjana Sanghi starrer Dil Bechara (earlier titled Kizzie Aur Manny) would only have a web release like Sushant’s last film Drive, the makers of the film Fox Star Studios have announced that the film will now release in the big screen.

“Earlier this year, another film of Fox called Lootcase starring Kunal Kemmu had also been allocated a web release, but the big boss intervened and asked for a theatrical release. Similarly, they didn’t want this prestigious film, to come out on a digital platform,” says a source.

Saif Ali Khan also has a cameo in the film, where he plays the role that Willem Dafoe did in the original. The character will be a Bollywoodised version of an author called Peter Van Houten. “The character is of a rasping alcoholic who is also Sanjana’s favourite author. But when the lead pair meets him, she is shaken by his behaviour. It is an edgy role, and Saif accepted it because of the deal he has with the Studio,” informs our source.

Dil Bechara is an Indian remake of the 2014 Hollywood hit The Fault In Our Stars and was stalled post the allegations on director Mukesh Chhabra. With an Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) giving him a clean chit, the film was back on track. Penned by Suprotim Sengupta and Shashank Khaitan, the film has AR Rahman as the music director. The film will now release on May 8, 2020.
