If not Aamir, Dangal would've gone to South supremos Kamal Haasan or Mohanlal

Mumbai: Aamir Khan's portrayal of Mahavir Singh Phogat in Nitesh Tiwari's 'Dangal' is widely being appraised as his career best, the film has also been doing phenomenally well, critically as well as commercially.

The actor also won a Filmfare Award for Best Actor, despite having sworn off from attending awards since his infamous snub at the 1995 Filmfare Awards, when Shah Rukh Khan won a nod for 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge,' over his portrayal in 'Rangeela'.

However, what if the actor had turned down the script of 'Dangal'? One would assume the script would then go to another A-list Bollywood actor.

If the makers of the film are anyhting to go by, the film would have not gone to a Bollywood actor, but would have gone scouting south.

According to an interview in New Indian Express, Divya Rao, Creative Producer at UTV Motion Pictures revealed that they would have approached either of the two South supremos, Kamal Haasan or Mohanlal with the script.

“Tthe only other actors who come to mind (If not Aamir) are Mohanlal and Kamal Haasan,” Divya stated.

Incidentally, Mohanlal had won the Kerala State Wrestling Championship in the year 1977-78.

Well, this is an interesting proposition to ponder over, though it makes one wonder if the Superstars would have been able to pull off the Haryanvi dialect.
