Hyderabad: Karan Johar’s Hindi film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil may face problems releasing in Telangana state too, after exhibitors in Mumbai refused to screen it because of the presence of actors from Pakistan.

The film was scheduled to release on October 28 ahead of Diwali. Some cinema theatre owners and a few political parties had decided to block the film in some parts of India.

In Telangana, BJP legislator Raja Singh has reportedly given an ultimatum to the exhibitors. “The MLA has sent letters to multiplex owners and the exhibitors not to screen the film in Hyderabad. He mentioned that the film had Pakistani actors and appealed to exhibitors to show their patriotism by not screening the film,” said an exhibitor who did not want to be named. Mr N. Sadanand Goud of Tarakarama theatre at Kacheguda crossroads, said he had he got a letter from Mr Raja Singh. He said the film would not be screened at his theatre; Tarakarama will be showing the other Hindi film, Shivaay starring Ajay Devgn, that also releases on October 28.

Hyderabad is one of the lucrative bases in the south for Hindi films, with nearly 25 multiplexes and a number of single screens. Fox Star Studios is distributing this film throughout India. Mr Raja Singh did not respond to several calls from this reporter for his comment.
