Shahid Kapoor's Udta Punjab becomes the 5th highest opening weekend of 2016
The film raked in Rs 33.8 cr over weekend and the numbers also made for Shahid's career best weekend.
Mumbai: The most debated film of the year Abhishek Chaubey’s Udta Punjab which released last Friday (June 17) has become the 5th highest opening weekend of 2016. Shah Rukh Khan’s Fan being at number 1, Housefull 3 at number 2, Airlift at number 3 and Baaghi at number 4.
The film minted Rs 10.05 cr. on the first day of its release. On day two, the collections saw a growth of 11.94% as the film managed to rake in Rs. 11.25 cr. It earned Rs 12.50 cr on Sunday and Rs 4.50 cr on Monday, making the total collections of the film Rs 38.30 cr.
The numbers also made for Shahid’s career best weekend. So far, the record was held by his 2013 film ‘R… Rajkumar’, which had minted Rs 30.7 crore in the first three days of release.
'Udta Punjab' revolves around drug abuse in the affluent north Indian State of Punjab and the characters- Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Diljit Dosanjh- and how they fight the menace of drugs in their own way.
